Running FreeBSD on an Inspiron 5150
This version of the laptop has a 3Ghz Pentium-4 mobile chip, a
Radeon 9000 Mobility, a Philips DVD+/-RW, and BroadCom Fast ethernet
controller. The display is 14" at 1400x1050.
It is running -CURRENT as of December 13th 2004.
Network
The if_bfe driver handles the onboard ethernet interface just fine..
bfe0: <Broadcom BCM4401 Fast Ethernet> mem 0xfaffe000-0xfaffffff irq 9 at device 1.0 on pci2
miibus0: <MII bus> on bfe0
bmtphy0: <BCM4401 10/100baseTX PHY> on miibus0
bmtphy0: 10baseT, 10baseT-FDX, 100baseTX, 100baseTX-FDX, auto
bfe0: Ethernet address: 00:0b:db:9d:07:ae
XFree86
Runs fine using the Radeon drivers and DRM. Here is a copy of the X config file. 3D
with direct rendering works.
Mouse
After the update to -current it was necessary to add the following
line to /boot/device.hints otherwise it won't probe.
hint.psm.0.flags="0x1000"
DVD/CD
I have played DVDs fine with mplayer in full screen, but I haven't
had much success writing yet.
